Ottersberg Tennis Club celebrates 50 years – sport and community united!
The Ottersberg Tennis Club celebrated its 50th anniversary this year with a festive anniversary celebration, which took place on the club's own facility in brilliant weather. Chairman Jens Player honored the founding members Hartmut Lemke, Reiner Bahrenburg, Manfred Przygoda and the late Rolf Mindermann, who once had a significant influence on the club and was chairman for over ten years. The motto of the celebration: “Fifty years – and not a bit tired” shows the vitality and cohesion that exists in the club. Representatives of friendly tennis clubs and personalities from politics and society also met here to celebrate together. After all, the tennis club has achieved a lot over the last five decades and has continued to develop.
The number of members fell to under 200 during the Corona years. But through targeted recruitment of members and a strong focus on youth work, the number was stabilized at around 220. The growth in the children's and youth department is particularly pleasing: the club now has 48 young people. A children's tennis day in the anniversary week, which ended with a celebratory award ceremony, underlined the club's commitment to tennis among the youngest.
Sporty highlights
The Ottersberg Tennis Club offered a varied program around the celebrations. A double mixed tournament for adults took place on June 18th, followed by a children's day with sporting activities on June 19th. These events not only create a great setting for the members, but also promote a sense of community within the club. Youth coach Mark Westphal and young Bremen player Simon Weil impressed the guests with a show match at a high level.
The importance of tennis in Germany is impressively underlined by the figures from the German Tennis Association (DTB). The year 2022 recorded more than 1.4 million club members, an increase of 62,000 compared to the previous year. The DTB, as the largest tennis association in the world, ensures that the sport remains on everyone's lips through numerous initiatives such as “Germany plays tennis”. Tennis is one of the most popular sports in Germany, and one of the reasons why local clubs like the Ottersberg Tennis Club stay up to date.
