Mourning for Günther Thormählen: A life for Frisian sport!

On October 15, 2025, Günther Thormählen died at the age of 86 on his agricultural property on Jaderlangstrasse. He was born here and worked in the region all his life. His death affects many people in the community who knew him from active sports and his voluntary work. Thormählen was an influential figure in the village community over the years, also as a passionate Frisian athlete at KBV Kreuzmoor.

Three years ago he was able to celebrate his diamond wedding with his wife Gertrud, proof of the strong connection that the couple has developed over the decades. He had been a member of the club since 1955 and served as second chairman from 1965 to 1973. His passion for theater was demonstrated by his involvement in the Kreuzmoorer amateur theater group for over 30 years, which lasted until 1990.

A life full of commitment

Thormählen had a good hand for the community and was not only active in sports. He also supported the Boßelseniors and youth work, which earned him honorary membership in the club in 1990. In 1962 he and his wife took over his parents' farm, where they took care of the work with dedication.

From 1973 to 2001, Thormählen's professional career took him to road and civil engineering, where he certainly gained a lot of valuable experience. He also served on the Jade Drainage Association for over 55 years, particularly during the frequent flood events that hit the region.

A whole life for the region

He was particularly in demand during seemingly stormy times. The construction of a drain pumping station in 1972 was a milestone that significantly improved the situation on site. Thormählen acted as a pumping station master and played an important role in preventing flooding in the neighborhood.

With the death of Günther Thormählen, the community says goodbye to a personality who shaped life in Jaderlangstrasse and beyond for many years. His work remains alive in the hearts of many people who knew and valued him. His name, like a long list of other deceased people mourned in the region, is now part of the memories of a fulfilling life.

The community will gratefully remember Thormählen and his tireless commitment. He leaves a void that will be difficult to fill. This is also confirmed by the most recent obituary notice, in which a long list of deceased volunteers was published, including Thormählen. A beautiful farewell for a man who has invested time and energy for the community is more than deserving.
