AfD office in Wittmund: opening planned despite blue graffiti!
The citizens' office of the AfD member of the Bundestag Martin Secures in Wittmund is already making headlines before its official opening. Reports show that the entrance area was daubed with blue paint before the doors were even opened. Sichert himself appears unimpressed by this action and explains in a press release that he does not want to be intimidated. The success of his party, which received between 23 and 25 percent of the vote nationwide, did not suit many “extremists from the left camp,” said Sichert.
The opening ceremony of the new office, which is located right next to a mosque on Brückstrasse, is scheduled for next week. The outdoor advertising has already been installed in the last few days. Those responsible for the color attack are still unknown, which raises questions about whether the protest comes from opponents of the AfD.
Political career and controversial statements
Martin Sichert, born on June 10, 1980 in Nuremberg, has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2017. He has already made a name for himself in the past as the AfD's health policy coordinator and was the party's Bavarian state chairman from 2017 to 2019. His political statements are often controversial, ranging from critical comments on Sharia law to controversial positions on the COVID-19 pandemic.
The AfD MP has been involved in numerous disputes in recent years. Sichert also scores points with a clear line in recognizing the genocide against the Yazidis. He is also a member of the Mensa association in Germany and, despite his marriage to the Yazidi Ronai Chaker, lives separately. The couple has two children together.
Summary of recent events
Sichert's political career is also marked by a number of setbacks. In the 2017 and 2021 federal elections he was a direct candidate for the Nuremberg-Nord constituency and was successfully re-elected. He is currently planning to run for the 2025 federal election in the Friesland - Wilhelmshaven - Wittmund constituency in third place on the AfD Lower Saxony state list.
He is currently facing legal challenges, as on January 30, 2025 his immunity to carry out criminal proceedings was lifted on suspicion of a violation of the Art Copyright Act. The political landscape is further fueled by such events and the ongoing discussion about its right-wing extremist reputation, which accompanies the AfD in some federal states. According to the current status, the AfD in Lower Saxony is classified as a suspect.
It remains to be seen whether political pressure and negative public perception can change the opening of the new citizens' office. In any case, the first preliminary opening has already caused a stir and we will keep you updated on further developments.
