Danger of severe weather in Lower Saxony: there is a threat of thunderstorms and heavy rain!
The weather in Lower Saxony today, July 17th, 2025, is changeable and partly uncomfortable. As the Zevener newspaper reported, showers and sometimes strong thunderstorms, which are associated with heavy rain, may occur in the northeast of the country today. This leads to a risk of severe weather, with rainfall amounts of over 30 liters per square meter being recorded locally.
Daily highs will range between 20 and 23 degrees, while it will be around 20 degrees on the islands. The wind will be light to moderate, but it can also be fresher on the coast. It will be partly cloudy to partly cloudy on Friday night and showers may continue to occur in places, particularly in the east. The temperatures drop to around 15 degrees at night, with light winds and night-time fog, especially in southern Emsland, where visibility can drop to less than 150 meters, like that German Weather Service explained.
Outlook for the coming days
Looking ahead to the next few days, there is no promise of any improvement in the changeable weather. Scattered showers will continue on Friday, particularly in the northeast, while temperatures rise to 23 to 25 degrees. It stays cooler on the islands at around 21 degrees. At night the last showers subside and temperatures drop to around 14 to 18 degrees.
Saturday will initially bring partly cloudy weather, but towards the evening thick clouds are expected, which could also provide room for showers and thunderstorms in the southwest. Here the temperatures inland can even reach up to 30 degrees. Further showers and thunderstorms are expected again on Sunday, with temperatures rising to up to 27 degrees inland, while around 22 degrees on the coast.
Severe weather warnings and information

The overview maps show severe weather warnings and information for various regions such as the German Bight, East Frisian Islands and the Harz region. Both advance warnings and acute warnings are taken into account, which warn of possible disruptions caused by storms, heavy rain or thunderstorms.
Particular attention should be paid to thunderstorms, which can bring not only heavy rain, but also hail and gusts of wind with speeds of up to 60 km/h. The meteorological situation is caused by a low pressure area that brings moist air masses to the eastern parts of the country. Therefore, the weather situation remains attractive and challenging.
