60 years of the Wolfenbüttel Music School: A celebration of sounds and talents!

The music school in the educational center of the Wolfenbüttel district recently celebrated its 60th anniversary with a festive anniversary celebration in June 2025. The celebrations were a lively interplay of singing, instrumental pieces and great performances. Particularly noteworthy was the choir's parody, conducted by Kuno Galter, which used opera scenes and musical terms with a lot of humor. The recorder orchestra, equipped with two sponsored great bass recorders, also impressed the audience with a wonderful Shostakovich waltz.

In her speech, the district administrator, Christiana Steinbrügge, emphasized the key function of music schools for participation and the development of empathy and personality in children and young people. The music school was highlighted as a central element for the music contact point and the rock office. The outgoing board, including Gerhild Werner, Ortrud Gabel and Manfred Wuttke, was bid farewell with warm words, while Martin Bujara was appointed as the new first chairman of the support association.

Women's power in the support association

In addition to Bujara, the new board also includes Mechthild Borchert and Christiane Seekamp, who act as second chairwoman and treasurer. The support association, which has existed for 35 years and currently has more than 100 members, has provided over 200,000 euros for events, new instruments and the music school itself. Gerhild Werner, the long-time first chairwoman, particularly emphasized the financial support for children, who thus have the opportunity to learn to make music, regardless of their financial situation.

The diversity of the projects supported shows how important the commitment of the support association is. These range from the purchase of musical instruments to financial support for students in need. The Society of Friends and Supporters of the Music School aims to promote access to music for all children and young people, regardless of income. This also means that the music school will offer preparatory courses for entrance examinations into music-related degree programs in autumn 2025.

Music and support offers

Making music is not only an important balance to everyday life, but also a skill that enriches many people. The cost of music lessons can vary depending on the music school, but there are also numerous funding options. Families who need financial support have the option of taking advantage of social tariffs and can often save on instrument rental fees. Information about this can be found in the fee regulations of the respective music schools. Various foundations can also support qualified music lessons, which is particularly important for students who are interested in music.

The commitment of music schools and their support associations shows how important music education is for society. With a good knack for financing and organization, it is possible to promote the musical talents of the future and pass on the joy of music to the next generation.
