The newest member of the Volkswagen family was presented today at this year's IAA Mobility in Munich: the VW ID.2 X, a fully electric SUV that is intended to bring a breath of fresh air into the world of compact vehicles. With a clear focus on affordable electric mobility, the ID.2 X is designed as a practical companion for urban transport. This new introduction is positioned as an electric counterpart to the T-Cross and is part of the “Electric Urban Car Family”, which also includes the ID.2, the Cupra Raval and the Skoda Epiq. This platform has the potential to massively advance Volkswagen's electrification campaign. A striking aspect of the ID.2 X is the interior, which offers space for families and has a sophisticated trunk concept with a volume of 490 to 1,330 liters. The vehicle will be based on the further developed MEB entry platform, which enables cost-efficient production and is intended to realize economical mobility around the world.
Technical details and ranges
With battery sizes of 38 and 56 kWh, ranges of 330 to 450 km are available – a plus point for anyone who travels a lot. The charging power of a maximum of 125 kW allows 70% of the battery capacity to be restored in around 20 minutes. This makes even longer journeys child's play, which is very popular with urban customers. The system output should be up to 166 kW and combines comfort with easy operation. NotebookCheck emphasizes that technical details about the drive and the battery will of course be determined in November during the IAA.
The price level is also attractive - with a starting price for the ID.2 under 25,000 euros and the ID.2 Direct competition includes vehicles such as the BYD Atto 3, the Renault Zoe and the Peugeot e-2008. The company sees this as an opportunity not only to retain existing customers, but also to develop new target groups.
A step in the right direction
With the ID.2 X, Volkswagen demonstrates its commitment to electrification and a green future. Through this product offensive, the company not only wants to expand its offerings for environmentally conscious drivers, but also help shape the entire perception of e-mobility in Germany. This direction is supported not least by the new models of the ID.7 series, such as the ID.7 GTX, which were recently introduced and impress with their strong performance. The strategy for promoting electromobility is clear and gives hope for strong growing potential for Volkswagen.
