Paderborn celebrates a 4-3 thriller against Bielefeld – fifth win in a row!
On Saturday afternoon in the Home Deluxe Arena in Paderborn the motto was: “Goal for the hosts!” SC Paderborn won its exciting duel against DSC Arminia Bielefeld 4-3 and celebrated its fifth league win in a row. In front of 15,000 enthusiastic fans, the team delivered a thrilling game in which the spectators got to see a lot.
The game started at a high pace, Laurin Curda had a good chance in the 2nd minute, followed by Filip Bilbija, who got the ball just a minute later. However, Bielefeld experienced an upswing between the 16th and 29th minutes. Joel Grodowski converted a penalty kick after a foul by Mattes Hansen on Monju Momuluh in the 16th minute. Paderborn responded in the 25th minute with a goal from Mika Baur after a fine one-two with Bilbija, but Momuluh restored the old distance just four minutes later.
Strong performance after the break
The second half clearly belonged to the hosts. In the 50th minute, Steffen Tigges equalized to make it 2-2, and not long after, Paderborn received a penalty that Bilbija coolly converted. Tigges – the best man on the pitch – finished off the score with his second goal of the game in the 62nd minute, making it 4-2. However, Bielefeld did not give up and reduced the deficit with another penalty kick in the 73rd minute, which Tim Handwerker confidently converted.
In the final phase there was an interruption due to a head injury to Calvin Brackelmann in the 88th minute. Ultimately, Paderborn celebrated the deserved 4-3 win and can now go into the coming games with a big heart.
Bielefeld continues to search for stability
While Paderborn has the best defense in the league with 17 points from eight games and is on the road to success, Bielefeld has now suffered its fourth competitive defeat in a row after two defeats in a row. In the current season, the team has scored in every game and therefore offers a certain danger, which is mainly created by set pieces. With a total of nine goals from set pieces, Bielefeld is at the top of the league.
Paderborn's next home game against Dynamo Dresden is on October 25th, while Bielefeld has to play against SV Elversberg at the same time in order to finally collect points again. It remains to be seen whether Bielefeld will get out of this negative series or whether Paderborn can continue to expand its supremacy in the league.
