Drama in Cologne: Six injured in high-rise apartment building fire!

On Sunday evening there was a dramatic apartment fire in Cologne-Meschenich, which injured several people and required a large fire department. Loud GA.de The first emergency call came to the control center at around 7:15 p.m. Several callers reported a fire on the 15th floor and a possible person in the affected apartment.

The Cologne fire department then sent out numerous emergency services. Access to the fire floor was via both stairwells, where furniture in the hallway was on fire. Contrary to initial fears, the suspicion that there was another person in the apartment was not confirmed. The emergency services quickly concentrated on rescuing people and fighting the fire.

Injured and evacuation

Due to the heavy smoke, toxic smoke entered the stairwell, causing several residents to inhale fire fumes. A total of six people required medical care and were taken to hospitals. The situation was tense: 66 firefighters and emergency services were on site and worked until the operation ended at around 9:20 p.m.

These dramatic events resulted in four apartments in the building being uninhabitable for the time being. One of the apartments was completely burned out. Ten other residents had to be evacuated wearing smoke masks, while firefighters were quickly able to prevent the fire from spreading to other apartments, reports Day24.

Cause investigations underway

The police have now started investigating the cause of the fire. An intensive operation was launched on “An der Fuhr” street to clarify the exact circumstances of the fire. It remains to be seen what investigators will discover as the affected residents now have to find a new place to live. The damage caused by fire and smoke is enormous and the affected apartments will not be usable for the time being.

The quick response of the fire and rescue services may have prevented something worse from happening and brought many people to safety. Such operational scenarios once again remind us of how important it is to act prudently in emergency situations and to call for help in a timely manner.
