In the Borken district, vehicle numbers continue to increase. As of December 31, 2025, a total of 354,072 vehicles were registered, an increase compared to 2024 when there were 350,677 vehicles. Particularly striking is the increase in passenger vehicles (passenger cars), which rose to 238,812 compared to 236,983 in the previous year. This shows that the love for cars in the Borken district is unbroken.
What does this mean for trucks and motorcycles? There is positive news here too: the number of trucks has grown from 22,404 to 22,803. And motorcycles can also look forward to an increase, with the number rising from 18,937 to 18,999.
Variety of vehicle drives
An interesting picture emerges when it comes to drive types. At the end of the year, 145,583 vehicles were running on petrol, 117,647 on diesel and 13,429 on electric vehicles. Hybrid vehicles account for 17,186, while 4,066 vehicles run on alternative energies such as LPG or natural gas. This is a clear indicator that electromobility is on the rise - 2,500 more electric vehicles than in 2024 demonstrate a growing awareness of environmentally friendly transport.
The number of followers is also not negligible: there are a total of 56,161 followers in the Borken district. This shows that many drivers are equipped for their leisure activities and are willing to invest in the necessary equipment.
Trends in admissions and deregistrations
New registrations totaled 17,078 in 2025, a decrease of around 900 compared to the previous year. Nevertheless, the number of admissions is still more than 3,000 higher than the number of deregistrations. The digital world is also finding its way into vehicle registration: over 30% of deregistrations were carried out online. Although digital registration options, which enable immediate driving and are often more cost-effective, are used less frequently, this shows a clear trend towards digitalization in the transport sector.
Additionally, classic cars are permitted and are growing in popularity, with registrations increasing to 4,015, compared to 3,840 in 2024. This speaks to the nostalgia and value that many people see in classic vehicles.
