Borken District Hall closed on October 24th – cultural highlight in Vreden!

There is news in Vreden that is exciting for those interested in culture and families alike! On Friday, October 24, 2025, the Borken district center, including its branches in Ahaus, Bocholt, Gescher, Gronau, Rhede and Stadtlohn, will be closed all day for operational reasons. But that doesn't mean that you'll get bored. Because that cult Westmünsterland, in the heart of Vreden, is open on this day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and presents two fascinating exhibitions.

Visitors can look forward to “My Westmünsterland. Photographs by Hubert Stroetmann” and “Drinkable Berkel”. Here, insights into the region and its stories are provided. The kult is not only a place for exhibitions, but also a cultural center that combines the tasks of museums, archives, libraries and research institutions and has a lot to offer guests.

A journey into the past

But the cult has even more to offer: original experiences for puzzle lovers await visitors. In an exciting escape room, participants immerse themselves in a time after the Second World War. In the fall of 1945, when Vreden was in ruins and living space was scarce, the players had to investigate the death of Willi Wenning, the sexton of the parish church of St. Georg. His housekeeper Erna Ehlrich is looking for a secret that the sexton may have kept safe. She only has 60 minutes to solve the puzzles before British military police carry out checks from 8 p.m.

The event is intended for groups of 3 to 6 people and is ideal for team building, family trips or bachelor parties. The cost of this exciting challenge is 60 euros, although free cancellation is possible up to three days before the appointment. In the event of short-term cancellations, 50 percent of the costs will be charged and in the event of a no-show, the full amount must be paid.
