Ohlms remains assistant coach: Skurios Volleys start boldly in the first league!
Good news for the volleyball fans in Borken: Arne Ohlms remains on board as assistant coach of the Skurios Volleys. The 43-year-old extended his contract and will continue to work under the leadership of head coach Danuta Brinkmann. Together they look back on their second year with the Skurios and their fourth year together overall. This continuity in the coaching team should give the team further impetus as they prepare for the new season in the 1st Volleyball Bundesliga. Press spokesman Thomas Hacker emphasizes how important this stability is for the development of the team. Burlo Direct reports that Ohlms faces the new challenges with motivation and respect.
Last season was a complete success for the Skurios Volleys. They won the championship in the 2nd Volleyball Bundesliga Pro and are now heading into the elite volleyball class full of confidence. Ohlms is optimistic about the coming season and believes in the potential of his players. “We have to work on our assumptions and adapt to the new opponents,” he explains, emphasizing that more pressure in the serve, more speed in the game and more power in the attack are necessary.
The challenges of the 1st Bundesliga
In the new league, the Skurios Volleys expect new conditions and increased media attention. Ohlms and Brinkmann rely on strong solidarity and a common playing philosophy that they developed during their previous time at Blau-Weiß Dingden. During this time they had a successful season in the 2nd Bundesliga Pro. “The team worked together great this year and that was a crucial factor in our success,” said Ohlms.
A look at the table from last season shows that the Skurios Volleys will play against VfL Oythe, who are currently in seventh place, on February 15, 2025. Ohlms and his team have won the last four matches against Oythe, which certainly boosts their self-confidence. The players are aware of the challenge and want to further extend their lead over their pursuers, the Rote Raben Vilsbiburg. The Volleyball Bundesliga emphasizes that the development of new talent will also play a central role in the coming season.
An exciting time lies ahead for the Skurios Volleys, and Ohlms is ready to make his contribution as an active part of the training. “The new league will test our strengths and I am looking forward to working towards our goal together with the players,” said the assistant coach. The volleyball community in Borken can look forward to an exciting year in which the Skurios Volleys want to proudly make the jump to the 1st Bundesliga.
