War of training places: 198 young people are desperately looking!

Despite the challenges, the training landscape in the Coesfeld district offers a wide range of opportunities for young people. At the end of September, 168 training positions were unfilled, while 198 young people were still looking for a suitable place. What is particularly striking is that 86 young people have found neither training nor an alternative perspective. This raises questions: what are the problems and how can the gap between supply and demand be closed? The AzOnline reports about this current situation.

An interesting trend is the increasing number of refugee applicants, which rose to 157 this year. In 2022 there were 80 and in 2023 there were already 65. Of these young refugees, 19 have not yet found a training position or alternative. According to the experts, the reasons for this discrepancy include mobility, specific professional requirements and concrete career expectations, which often do not match the positions on offer.

Career orientation and preparations

In the Coesfeld district, vocational preparation is offered from the 8th grade onwards. Many students receive initial confirmations of their training positions after internships in the 9th grade, which shows that early orientation and practical experience are crucial. The best way to successfully integrate young people into the world of work is promoted by the employment agency and partners as part of the state initiative “No qualification without connection”.

However, the number of registered training positions has fallen by 208 compared to 2024, making it even more difficult for young people to find prospects. The economic developments and the early allocation of some positions could be the reasons for this. Here, too, there is a need for action so that the gap between the unfilled positions and the young people looking for them does not widen further.
