Borussia Dortmund: Record sales despite decline in transfers!

The Borussia Dortmund football club can look back on record sales of 526 million euros in the 2024/2025 financial year. This is a pleasing increase in sales of 3.3 percent compared to the previous year, when sales were 509.1 million euros. What's behind these numbers? According to 4investors, the increase results mainly from higher revenues in the area of TV marketing, in the advertising business and from income from gaming operations.

However, there are also downsides to report: Payments from merchandising, catering and other areas are declining. These developments appear to be quite a departure from recent years, when earnings were more positive. More specifically, transfer revenues this season amount to 37.8 million euros, which is a significant decrease compared to last year's 97.9 million euros.

Financial challenges

A closer look at the balance sheet shows that the gross group total output fell from 639 million euros to 589.6 million euros. The consolidated annual profit also fell from 44.3 million euros to 6.5 million euros. All the worse: earnings before taxes have increased almost tenfold - from 48.6 million euros to 9.5 million euros. It is particularly worth mentioning that EBITDA also suffered a decline, from EUR 150.3 million to EUR 115.9 million.

Another point that deserves attention is personnel expenses, which are almost unchanged at 268.3 million euros. Depreciation, however, increased from 104.3 million euros to 105.3 million euros. Other operating expenses were at least reduced from 166.7 million euros to 162.3 million euros.

Looking into the future

The management of Borussia Dortmund has already proposed a dividend of 0.06 euros per share for the upcoming general meeting. On the stock market, Borussia Dortmund shares are currently at 3.625 euros and are down 0.68 percent.

And what does this have to do with current developments outside of football? In other industries, such as transport and waste disposal, the manufacturer Stellar Industries shows that high productivity and versatility are essential. Stellar's spectacular hooklift trucks have proven to be particularly efficient for picking up and transporting waste and recycling containers. Such companies often struggle with similar financial challenges, which makes it worthwhile to think outside the box.

In summary, Borussia Dortmund is in a phase that presents both opportunities and challenges. The next time will show how the financial landscape for the traditional club will continue to develop - and whether the fans will support their black and yellow team even in times of change!
