Dortmund Airport: Wizz Air brings travel pleasure back to Wroclaw!

Something big is on the horizon at Dortmund Airport: From October 25, 2026, Wizz Air will resume a connection to Poland's fourth largest city, Breslau (Wrocław in Polish). The airport is actively expanding its offering and bringing travelers to a city that is often referred to as the “Venice of Poland”. Four flights per week are planned: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The flight time is only around 90 minutes, making Wroclaw an easily accessible destination, ideal for a long weekend or a short city break. As ruhr24.de reports, Wroclaw was already part of Dortmund Airport's offering and is now returning in time for the 2026/27 winter season back.

But what makes Wroclaw so exciting? The city is not only known for its impressive architecture, but also has a vibrant university culture. Life is flourishing on the streets of the old town. The main sights include the Gothic town hall, the Centennial Hall, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Cathedral Island with its impressive Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. According to dortmund-airport.de, the connection between Germany and Poland is particularly valued, not least because of the Polish roots of many people in the Ruhr area.

Experience Wroclaw’s diversity

Wroclaw impresses with its unique cityscape, which is characterized by the Oder and its numerous tributaries. With twelve river islands and over 100 bridges, the city invites you to explore. Shops, cafés and cultural highlights, such as the Panorama Raclawica and the lively Rynek market square, make up the city's charm. There are many opportunities to stroll and explore in the Old Town, while numerous festivals such as the Wroclaw Nonstop and the Wratislawia Cantans enrich cultural life. Direktflug.de recommends staying overnight in the city center to easily reach the sights on foot.

The response to the new flight connections to Poland is high. Guido Miletic, Head of Airport Services at Dortmund Airport, emphasizes the cultural and economic importance of the route. This is also supported by the suggestion of many users on social media to offer additional destinations such as Krakow or Poznan. The interest in the new flights is reflected in the growing popularity of Polish destinations in the Ruhr area. Popular routes from Dortmund to Katowice and Gdansk are already established, while Dallas flights to Warsaw since June 2025 are another reason to consider partial flights.

A look into the future

The Polish economy has gained momentum in recent years, which could further boost flight operations. With the flight to Wroclaw, Dortmund Airport will strengthen its position in regional air traffic and possibly consider other destinations in Poland. The resumption of the route to Olsztyn-Mazury is also on the agenda, demonstrating continued interest in connections in this emerging region. At this point it will be exciting to see what new opportunities and experiences will open up in the coming years.
