Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park: games, fun and light displays for everyone!
The Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park, better known as LaPaDu, is a true leisure paradise that is a popular destination not only for families, but also for adventure seekers and those interested in culture. Since the closure of the Thyssen blast furnace plant in 1985, the original industrial complex has been transformed into a fascinating attraction. The final tapping at blast furnace 5 marked the end of production, but today the area shines with a colorful mix of art, sport and culture. Like WDR, the LaPaDu inspires people on over 200 hectares of land, which serves as a playground for young and old.
Visitors can expect a wide range of leisure activities here. They can, among other things, let off steam on the giant tube slide, skateboard in an indoor hall or try climbing and diving. There is also a learning farm for families, which is run with a lot of love and commitment. From the evening onwards, the park is transformed into a sea of lights when the British artist Jonathan Park lights up the ironworks in red, green and blue. On Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, the experience is further enhanced by the illuminated scenery - a very special ambience that should not be missed.
Industrial history meets modern leisure activities
The LaPaDu is not only a place for relaxation, but also a center for exciting tours and rallies that particularly appeal to school classes and young people. The different offers are aimed at different age groups and interests. For example, school classes from the fourth grade onwards can take part in the “Huts Championship” rally, which highlights structural change and industrial culture. With a price of just 6 euros per student and an exciting program that includes a steelworker medal for the best team, this is certainly an exciting experience. Further information can be found on the Landschaftspark page.
Young people aged 12 to 15 can join the “The Secret of the Hut” rally, which is not only exciting but also covers important topics. There are also tailor-made activities for adults, such as the “E. Isenstein” rally or the geocaching rally. This offer enables groups to discover the former industrial facility in a playful way and to immerse themselves in the exciting history of the business location. Families also have the opportunity to experience a shared adventure during a GPS treasure hunt in the old ironworks.
A day at LaPaDu: Unforgettable experiences
The activities at LaPaDu also include joint climbing tours, film evenings in the open-air cinema and guided tours through the old industrial facilities, which tell of the fascinating history of the site. With free entry, the park offers a worthwhile day for every budget.
No matter whether you are looking for activity, relaxation or a cultural experience - the Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park attracts with a colorful program and a unique mix of nature and culture. The old industry has made room for creative development and leisure fun. In this lively environment, no wish remains unfulfilled.
