New District Administrator Schaberick: District council meeting on November 3rd in view!
Something is happening in the Ennepe-Ruhr district: the constituent meeting of the newly elected district council is just around the corner. On Monday, November 3rd, the time has come. In the main location, the Schwelm district council meeting room, citizens can look forward to some important decisions. The meeting opens at 5 p.m. and the agenda is tough - a total of 26 points need to be dealt with.
The central item on the agenda will be the inauguration of Jan-Christoph Schaberick (SPD), the newly elected district administrator. Schaberick prevailed in a runoff election against Sebastian Arlt (CDU) on September 28th, receiving 55.9 percent of the vote. He will take office on November 1st and will be ceremoniously sworn in at the meeting. The voter turnout of 37.7 percent shows that the issues of the local elections are important to many citizens, as 97,643 of the 258,732 eligible voters cast their votes. It is confirmed that Schaberick will remain in office until 2030.
Important decisions are pending
In addition to the commitment of the 62 district council members, the meeting on November 3rd will also focus on the formation and composition of the compulsory and voluntary committees for the coming legislative period. Also on the agenda are the election of deputy district administrators and the selection of district representatives in various committees, including the Westphalia-Lippe Regional Assembly and the Rhine-Ruhr Transport Association.
An exciting meeting is coming up, in which the decision about sending members to advisory boards and supervisory boards will also be made. A link will be provided on the district administration website for virtual participation in the meeting, so that those interested can take part from home - a good opportunity for anyone who would like to find out about developments in the district council.
The new distribution of seats in the district council
Less surprising, but still exciting: The distribution of seats in the new district council has brought with it some changes. Here is an overview of the distribution of the 62 seats:
| party | Seats | Change to previous election |
|---|---|---|
| SPD | 18 | -1 |
| CDU | 16 | 0 |
| AfD | 11 | +8 |
| Alliance 90/The Greens | 8 | -5 |
| The left | 3 | +1 |
| FDP | 3 | -1 |
| Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht | 1 | New |
| citizens' forum | 1 | 0 |
| The party | 1 | New |
The new composition shows a clear change in the political spectrum of the district council. What is particularly striking is the strong increase in AfD seats, which grew from three to eleven. This could lead to new challenges and discussions within the district council. It remains to be seen how the parties will work together in the new constellation.
With the new legislative period, the focus is on the next five years of political work in the Ennepe-Ruhr district, and everyone involved hopes to set the course for the future with a good hand.
