Schlotterbeck is missing from DFB training – World Cup qualification is in danger!

An unfortunate situation is emerging in German football. Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck is currently battling a foot injury that has put his participation in the World Cup qualifier against Luxembourg in doubt, which will be broadcast on RTL on Friday at 8:45 p.m. How Radio Ennepe Ruhr reported, the 24-year-old was unable to take part in the German national team's training in Wolfsburg. Although his health has improved slightly, he was unable to take part in training just two days before the important game.

The DFB have announced that Schlotterbeck is currently only completing light, non-stressful exercises, dampening hopes of his return to the starting lineup. After Schlotterbeck's arrival in Wolfsburg, national coach Julian Nagelsmann expressed pessimism about his condition. The player suffered a painful blow to his foot in the Bundesliga game against Hamburger SV, which required medical treatment.

Alternatives in the squad

There is currently no follow-up call-up for the injured Schlotterbeck, which means that the DFB will not rely on Frankfurt's Robin Koch. If Schlotterbeck is actually out, Waldemar Anton and Jonathan Tah from Bayern Munich could form the defensive axis in the game against Luxembourg. Malick Thiaw from Newcastle United is also in the squad as the third central defender.

For Schlotterbeck, who had to take a break between March and October due to knee surgery, another setback would be particularly unfortunate. His comeback to the national team has been positive so far, with two clean sheets against Luxembourg and Northern Ireland this year. After the duel against Luxembourg, the next qualifying game against Slovakia follows on Monday, where the national team could secure their World Cup ticket with two wins.

Given the current situation in the DFB team, it remains to be seen whether Schlotterbeck will be fit before the game against Luxembourg or whether the coach will have to consider alternatives. The fans are keeping their fingers crossed that the talented defender is fit to play again in time.
