Party headquarters in Essen target of color attacks – state security investigates!

On the night of Friday, June 20, 2025, there was an angry color attack that targeted the party headquarters of the SPD, CDU and Greens in Essen. Loud Radio Essen Unknown people left bright red paint and provocative slogans on the walls. The SPD office on Severinstrasse was particularly badly affected, as it was daubed with communist symbols and the words “class traitor”. The CDU headquarters was not spared either – the slogan “Free all Antifas” was emblazoned here. The Greens were confronted with the accusation of being “warmongers”.

The police immediately initiated an investigation and called in the state security agency to investigate these suspected politically motivated acts. The incidents are not the first of their kind, but the extent of this graffiti has reached a previously unknown dimension. Such attacks on party headquarters are not new, but they have rarely occurred on such a scale in Essen.

Similar incidents in other cities

But Essen is not the only city where the waves of political graffiti are raging. A look at Lübeck shows that the State Security Commissioner is also active here. In the night from Thursday to Friday, paint daubs were seen on Percevalstrasse and An der Mauer. One particularly aggressive slogan read: “Racist in the neighborhood.” Members of Lübeck's citizens are affected, namely David Jenniches and Heiko Steffen from the AfD. Police are appealing for information from witnesses who may have noticed suspicious activity on the night in question ( ln online ).

Similar phenomena have been documented in Munich. In the districts of Bogenhausen and Berg am Laim, graffiti with symbols from the National Socialist era caused a stir. The police had to immediately activate the emergency call after they noticed several lettering on the Max-Joseph-Brücke and on Ifflandstrasse. A swastika spray-painted on an apartment building was particularly disturbing. Residents reported loudly chanting Nazi slogans, which shocked the local community. The local district committee calls for responsible action and an end to property damage ( tz.de ).

The increase in such incidents raises questions – what motivates people to express political protest in this way? The angry mood is palpable in all of these cities, and it seems that the social discourse has reached a critical point. The police and investigative authorities are faced with the challenge of not only finding the perpetrators, but also regaining trust in public safety.
