Alarming numbers: 630 traffic accidents with injuries in the Euskirchen district!

In the Euskirchen district there is a lot going on around the topic of road safety. According to recent reports, the situation has changed in the past year compared to previous years. Last year, a total of 630 traffic accidents with injuries were registered, which corresponds to around one in ten accidents. The city of Euskirchen is particularly in focus: almost every third accident involving injuries occurred here. But the locations outside the city should not be neglected either; around half of the accidents occurred outside of town. 43 accidents on motorways were documented. A hotspot for traffic accidents was Kommerner Straße between Euskirchen and the A1 junction Wißkirchen, where 17 accidents took place, followed by Euskirchener Ring and the area around the Europa roundabout.

Regrettably, there were also 21 deaths related to road accidents last year, the highest number in many years. This reported Radio Euskirchen. The state statisticians' accident atlas documents the traffic situation in detail and thus offers valuable insights into the danger spots in the district.

Traffic accident balance 2024

In March 2024, the traffic accident statistics for 2024 were published. District Administrator Markus Ramers and Police Chief Inspector Dirk Kilburg announced that 6,046 traffic accidents were recorded in the Euskirchen district, which is 296 fewer than the previous year. The number of accidents resulting in personal injury fell to 586, but the number of deaths remained unchanged at 21. Fewer accidents with injuries were reported in cities such as Euskirchen, Weilerswist and Schleiden, while an increase was recorded in Zülpich and Nettersheim. The motorcycle season, however, brought an increase in motorcycle accidents: 88 cases were registered.

A positive aspect was the reduced number of traffic accidents involving errant drivers, which was reduced to 1,015, as well as an increased clearance rate of 43.9 percent, which is above the national average. This shows that the police are taking intensive action against escape accidents. Despite these successes, the number of unreported cases of cell phone use while driving remains high, which points to challenges for society as a whole. The Euskirchen police recommends increased vigilance, especially at dusk, in view of the 983 registered wildlife accidents, which have remained relatively stable overall.

Statistical basis for measures

The nationwide traffic accident statistics, as published by destatis.de are created play a crucial role in the development of effective transport policy. They not only serve to provide information about accident statistics, but also to develop measures in the areas of legislation, traffic education and infrastructure and traffic safety policy. Data on the causes of accidents, those involved and vehicles are the key to developing targeted strategies to improve road safety.

Road safety in the Euskirchen district remains an important issue that affects both the authorities and the population. With intensive measures and increased awareness, the number of accidents could hopefully be further reduced in the coming years.
