World Children's Day: Creative festival and children's rights highlight in Mechernich!

On September 19, 2025, Cologne will once again be all about children. On this day, a variety of activities take place around World Children's Day that are not only fun but also important. World Children's Day has the motto "Children's Rights - Building Blocks for Democracy" and offers a free invitation to all children and families to celebrate this together.

From 2:30 p.m., various creative and movement activities are prepared for the young guests on the monastery square. Here children can sift gemstones, make bracelets, show off their skills in a football throwing game or compete against each other in an exciting stacking game. A painting activity also ensures that the little ones' creative minds are put to use. In addition to these activities, there will also be informative stands that will raise awareness about children's rights. These events are hosted by Radio Euskirchen organized.

Benefit concert and children's festival

There is another highlight for music lovers: On Saturday at 7:30 p.m. the Child Protection Association in Mechernich is organizing the “Benefit for Kids” concert. The duo Resi Komp and Jürgen Werner as well as the cover band Von Stülp perform here. Admission to this concert is free, but donations are welcome. These flow directly into projects for the benefit of children and young people in Mechernich.

An additional children's festival entitled “From Gate to Gate” will take place on Sunday, September 21st, in Bad Münstereifel. Numerous hands-on activities such as trampoline jumping, soccer darts, handball and basketball are planned from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Creativity is not neglected either: children can make their own sweets at various craft tables or take an active part in the hands-on circus and Punch and Judy show.

Preparations for Berlin and more activities

In addition, the German Children's Fund and UNICEF Germany have launched a participation campaign that also celebrates World Children's Day. Over 1,000 young people have already sent their demands and messages. On World Children's Day, a monument to democracy will even be built in front of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, in which children and young people will actively participate. The aim is to send a strong signal for social coexistence and a child-friendly future the German Children's Fund reported.

Anyone interested in World Children's Day should also mark September 20th in their calendar. The 34th children's festival is taking place in downtown Cologne. On this day there are numerous games, information stands and even two stages with entertainment. The popular mouse from “Sendung mit der Maus”, the Cologne band Cat Ballou and UNICEF sponsors such as Jana Ina and Giovanni Zarrella will be there. And the best thing about it: Admission is free, so families can spend carefree hours together with their children UNICEF highlights.
