Together Digital: New project strengthens seniors in the neighborhood!

Something is happening in Gütersloh – all about the digital future for older people! On September 17, 2025, an exciting lecture will be offered as part of the “Together Digitally” project, which will offer anyone interested insightful insights into the creation of digital structures and skills for seniors. The project is carried out by the Wilhelm Florin Center in collaboration with the Ev. Johanneswerk and is part of the “Gütersloh enlightens – expand health literacy” initiative, which is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia Gütersloh.de reported.

The “Together – Digital” funding program celebrated its launch at the beginning of 2022 and is an important part of the strategy to actively integrate older people into the digital world. Care facilities in particular are the focus because they can act as pilots and anchors in the neighborhood. The participation opportunities for seniors should be significantly increased through needs-based digital offerings and the creation of structures and collaborations. This is not only intended to reduce digital hurdles, but also to increase the quality of life, like the site MAGS highlights.

Financial support for innovation

As part of the program, 20 care facilities in North Rhine-Westphalia receive funding of up to 50,000 euros annually for up to three years to cover personnel and material expenses. The ministry provides up to one million euros annually to support this forward-looking approach. These financial resources are a good example of how the state of North Rhine-Westphalia is actively investing in the digital future of its older citizens.

A look beyond the borders of NRW

The “Together Digitally” initiative is one of a number of similar projects across Germany. For example, there is a senior media mentor program in Baden-Württemberg and a competition to strengthen digital fitness in Brandenburg. Digital participation is also promoted in Hamburg with the “SILVER & SMART” offerings. These nationwide efforts make it clear how important the topic of digital skills has become for seniors in our societies and that networking and the exchange of regional approaches are also of great importance at other levels, such as digitalpakt-alter.de can be read.

On September 17th, everyone interested is cordially invited to the Wilhelm Florin Center to find out about the progress and possibilities of the “Together Digitally” project. The motto “The digital does not replace the analogue, it creates more possibilities!” hits the nail on the head and invites you to join in. Who knows, maybe someone will discover a new passion in the digital world!
