Platzmann Open 2025: Tennis legends inspire in Hagen!

What's happening in Hagen? From July 27th to August 3rd, 2025, the city will be transformed into a mecca for tennis fans, as the Platzmann Open, the largest tennis tournament in the region, invites you to an exciting competition. Despite the long-standing tradition in Lüdenscheid, this year the event will be held on the TC Rot-Weiß Hagen facility for the first time, which will increase the anticipation of the spectators. In particular, the special fame of the TC Rot-Weiß, which played a central role in the tennis Bundesliga in the past, gives the event an endearing nostalgic flair. As localdirekt.de reports, the organizers are expecting an attractive field of participants.

This year the focus is on both the singles and doubles tournaments. In the individual competition, 32 players compete in the main field, while 24 players give their best in the qualification. To crown the exciting duel, 16 couples have the opportunity to show what they can do in doubles. The winners will be rewarded with 75 world ranking points and part of the total prize money of 91,250 euros. This prize money is part of the ATP Challenger Tour, which is known in the tennis world for its support of young talent and players outside the top 100. The Wikipedia page on the ATP Challenger Tour explains that tournaments of this type are not only popular in Germany, but also internationally.

Star highlight on the final Sunday

One of the highlights of the Platzmann Open is the “Red-White Legends Match” held on the final Sunday, August 3rd. This is a show double that is intended to commemorate the most successful era of the TC Rot-Weiß. Tennis greats such as Michael Kohlmann, Jens Wöhrmann, Gregor Paul and Karsten Braasch are there. Michael Kohlmann, who also serves as Davis Cup captain, has a special connection to Hagen and the club. The tournament director Rogier Wassen emphasizes the importance of this match and describes the Center Court as one of the most important tennis venues in Germany.

Already past highlights

The Platzmann Open 2023 is still fresh in our memories. There were some exciting matches to see on the last day of the tournament. Raúl Brancaccio had to retire due to a thigh problem, while Benoît Paire and Hugo Dellien fought a thrilling duel that lasted more than two hours. Dellien finally prevailed in the third set and secured his place in the final. In the doubles, Luca Margaroli and Santiago Rodriguez Taverna triumphed after a nerve-wracking match tiebreak.

Will the players be able to deliver top performances again this year? That remains to be seen. Tickets for the tournament can already be purchased in the official ticket shop at platzmann-open.com. Tennis enthusiasts should mark this event in their calendars!
