Environmental activist in internship: The three from the garbage collection tackle it!
The television is currently drawing attention to exciting content: On Saturday, March 29, 2025, the feature film “The Three from the Garbage Collection – Mission Future” will be broadcast on Das Erste. The film, which was produced in 2020, tells the story of 16-year-old environmental activist Dennis, who does a one-week student internship with Captain Werner Träsch, played by Uwe Ochsenknecht. The plot revolves around Dennis' difficulties, who has little interest in unpaid waste collection and at the same time offers learning material for his personal development.
Werner's role is particularly complex. After an incident at a “Fridays for Future” schoolyard demonstration that leads to a shitstorm, he not only has to deal with his own challenges, but also discovers that Dennis is a match for him when it comes to Berlin snout. Werner also has to struggle with personal hardships: the loss of his wife weighs on him while he tries to make a new start with Gabi, his new partner.
Insights into the cast and participants
Werner Träsch is supported by Ralle Schieber, played by Jörn Hentschel, and Tarik Büyüktürk, played by Aram Arami. Other characters round out the ensemble, including Rüdiger Dorn (Rainer Schlitzer), Gabi Hertz (Adelheid Kleineidam) and many more. The film adaptation is thanks to talented participants such as director Hagen Bogdanski and screenwriters Toks Körner and Christian Krüger, who together bring the story to life.
Another aspect that is interesting in connection with this film is the increasing awareness of environmental issues in society. According to an article on bpb.de, many nature filmmakers want to contribute to improving the world. Jan Haft, a prominent filmmaker in this area, shows in his works such as “The Meadow - a Paradise Next Door” the threat to flower meadows and their decline by 99 percent. This shows how important it is to motivate young people to stand up for nature.
Sustainability in focus
Haft is also a supporter of the Fridays for Future movement and sees it as a commitment among young people to environmental protection. With films he wants to reach a wide audience and point out the need for ecological change. So the circle closes: “The Three from the Garbage Collection” also pursues a concern that is a major issue for many people, especially for the next generation.
By the way, the ongoing series will be continued on June 5th with the title “The Three from the Garbage Collection – Kassen Crash”. So stay tuned and follow how the characters develop and hopefully provide positive impulses for nature conservation.
