ASV Hamm signs coaching gem Jamal Naji – start to a success story!
A new personality is bringing a breath of fresh air in the handball circle: ASV Hamm-Westphalia has been able to win Jamal Naji as its new coach. The 39-year-old, who most recently worked for the first division club Bergischer HC, will take up his position on Friday, October 27, 2025. The decision came after the separation from Jörn-Uwe Lommel and a transition period under interim coach Fabian Huesmann. Managing director Markus Fuchs and sporting director Micky Reiners officially introduced Naji before the game against OHV Aurich to inform the fans about their team's new course. LipWave reports that those responsible made the choice of trainer carefully and did not proceed indiscriminately.
Naji has an impressive career, in which he coached Tusem Essen from 2020 to 2022 and then moved to Bergischer HC. Despite his dismissal in April 2024, after a series of twelve defeats, he still wants to actively implement his ideas at ASV Hamm. The dispute over the validity of his contract went all the way to the Federal Labor Court in Erfurt and is still ongoing today. Despite these setbacks, Naji is optimistic about the future. He will use the days off from training after Sunday's game to have initial discussions with the team captains to get an idea of the team. Sports picture emphasizes that he sees the professional structure at ASV as ideal.
A fresh start with a lot of potential
Jamal Naji emphasizes that his philosophy and the structures at ASV fit together well. The team consists of a mix of experienced players and talented young talent, which Naji sees as an ideal basis for his work. “I’m very excited to see the team’s reaction to my ideas,” he says. Calf reports that Naji was considered the favorite for the coaching position and the club's hopes of an upswing through his employment are high.
Naji will start his new job with a breath of fresh air and ambitious goals. The eyes of fans and handball lovers are firmly focused on the upcoming games, while ASV Hamm-Westfalen is taking a look into the future, which should receive new impetus with Naji at the helm. It remains to be seen how the club will develop under his leadership and whether the team's potential can be fully developed. We can be excited!
