New pilot point in Hamm: Volunteers take off!

On July 10, 2025 the time had come: the new pilot point was ceremoniously inaugurated in Hamm. The atmosphere at the opening was one of joy and a strong sense of community. This central contact point is intended to help citizens and make the various support offers in the region better known. The volunteer team responsible for looking after the pilot point consists of seven committed members: Margit Strunk, Pastor Martin Kürthen, Sylvia Link, Ulla Schmidt, Julia Pohontsch, Chiara Klein, Gisela Greskamp and LuBelle Kreutzer. Petra Krämer was unable to take part for personal reasons, but that didn't dampen the good mood.

The Pilot Point Initiative team has been working hand in hand for a year to make this day possible. According to information from Rhine newspaper The official opening is scheduled to take place as part of the Raiffeisen Week 2025, which perfectly rounded off the festive setting.

The pilot point – an important resource

The pilot point is intended to be an important resource for the community. The focus is on supporting people in difficult life situations and promoting volunteer work. This type of voluntary work in Germany is not only supported by churches and social institutions, but also offers many opportunities for committed citizens. Particularly well-known are the Voluntary Social Year and the Voluntary Ecological Year, which offer both social and ecological commitment.

Volunteer work has established itself as a valuable pillar in many German cities. Information about this can be found on websites such as voluntarywork.de to find where a variety of volunteer support opportunities are offered.

The establishment of the pilot point in Hamm will make an important contribution to strengthening social cohesion in the region. At the opening ceremony, the members of the volunteer team were visibly proud of the work they had done and the positive reactions of those present. The aim is not only to publicize the offers of help, but also to motivate other people to volunteer.
