In the early morning hours of August 10, 2025, more precisely around 5:20 a.m., the fire department was called to a fire in Erkelenz Lövenich. The cause of the fire in Lövenich is currently unknown. A vehicle was damaged by the flames and extinguishing efforts are ongoing. For the safety of the population, a message about odor nuisance in the Erkelenz – Lövenich area was issued via the Nina warning app. In addition, parts of the Gasberg had to be closed to road traffic.

A similar incident in Dortmund

A similar fire was also reported in Dortmund about two weeks ago in an old barn, which broke out in Scharnhorst on July 24, 2025. Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire in Dortmund because the building was empty.
