The Heinsberg district will carry out speed measurements from June 30th to July 6th, 2025 to increase traffic safety.
Safe roads: New speed measurements in the Heinsberg district!
The 27th calendar week of 2025 is dedicated to security in the Heinsberg district. From Monday, June 30th to Sunday, July 6th, the district will conduct speed measurements. The aim of these actions is clear: to increase the safety of all citizens, especially children. Police will be active at various locations to check compliance with speed limits. The aim is to minimize dangerous situations in traffic.
The upcoming measuring locations and dates for the speed controls are as follows:
- Montag, 30. Juni: Schafhausen, Linderner Straße; Stahe, Bundesstraße/L47; Heinsberg, Westpromenade
- Dienstag, 1. Juli: Orsbeck, Heinsberger Straße; Wassenberg, Breiter Weg; Geilenkirchen, B56
- Mittwoch, 2. Juli: Randerath, Buschstraße; Gerderath, Lauerstraße; Heinsberg, Wassenberger Straße
- Donnerstag, 3. Juli: Marienberg, In der Schley; Rath-Anhoven, Gladbacher Straße; Geilenkirchen, Camphausenweg
- Freitag, 4. Juli: Dremmen, Gladbacher Straße; Hückelhoven, Doktor-Ruben-Straße; Erkelenz, L19
- Samstag, 5. Juli: Geilenkirchen, L42; Wegberg-Beeck, Kreuzung L127/L400; Grambusch, Kreuzung L3/L46

Balance of the previous week and short-term checks
In the previous week, from June 23rd to 29th, many speed measurements took place throughout the district. These were also designed for the safety of road users. The locations checked included:

Particular attention is paid to ensuring that short-term controls are possible throughout the district. This means that extreme caution is required because the police could be waiting on every corner with a measuring device.
Modern technologies to improve security
The need for such measurements is reinforced by the trend towards using modern technologies to analyze traffic behavior. The evaluation of the v85 speed, which describes which speeds are not exceeded by 85% of vehicles, has become increasingly important. To date, this method has mainly been recorded through selective speed measurements, which, however, are only of limited significance. Thanks to new technologies, comprehensive recording and more precise analysis are now possible, which contributes significantly to increasing traffic safety.
Comprehensive data collection from vehicles not only enables current insights into speed behavior, but also early detection of danger spots. Traffic engineers can take targeted actions based on this data and set speed limits more efficiently to reduce the risk of accidents.
