Discover the new Sauerland Museum: architectural tour on June 29th!
What's new on Sunday June 29th? Quite simply: “Architecture Day” attracts visitors with a very special event at the Sauerland Museum in Arnsberg. From 2:30 p.m., the museum invites you to a guided tour that not only immerses visitors in the architectural depths of the past, but also focuses on modern architecture. The participation fee of €8 covers both entry and visits to the current exhibitions, which is a really good deal! If you haven't decided yet, you should reserve a place now at the latest.
The Sauerland Museum itself has a fascinating history. Founded in the historic Landsberger Hof in 1605, it has hosted exciting exhibitions on regional culture and architecture since 1937. In 1975, the newly founded Hochsauerlandkreis took over the sponsorship, and a lot has happened since then. The striking new building, which was awarded to the architects of the Stuttgart office bez + kock in 2011, greatly enriches the historic center of Arnsberg. A bridge with an impressive panoramic window creates a connection between the historic Landsberger Hof and the new extension building, harmoniously tying both worlds together. On top of that, the extension building was clad in Gauinger travertine, which gives it a sculptural appearance.
Exploring and learning together
The Sauerland Museum is not only a place for exhibitions, but also a space for interactive experiences. It is recommended that groups of ten or more people register. They can experience a visit to the museum for just €9, which is an excellent offer for clubs or schools. Registrations can be made easily via the museum reception, telephone inquiries can be made on 02931 944444, and an online inquiry form is also available.
But it's not just the architecture of the museum itself that tells stories. During the guided tours, visitors can also delve deeper into the topic of architectural history, which is currently being discussed in urban planning and monument preservation. According to the experts at University of Bern This discipline encompasses the visual culture of architecture and the city, as well as their Transylvanian social context. It also discusses how monument preservation and architectural history go hand in hand, ultimately supporting the development of a conscious and sustainable approach to historical buildings in the 21st century.
The “Architecture Day” promises a stimulating opportunity to not only discover Arnsberg’s architectural diversity, but also a look at the synergistic effects of history and modernity that characterize the Sauerland Museum. Further information about registration and the museum itself can be found on the official website of the Sauerland Museum: sauerland-museum.de.
We look forward to combining old and new in this unique facility and cordially invite everyone interested in architecture to take part in this exciting event!
