27 accidents in the Höxter district: Police warn of slippery roads!

On Monday, October 27th, there was a veritable flood of traffic accidents in the Höxter district, which presented the police with major challenges. In total there were 27 accidents, caused by wet roads and strong gusts of wind, which created dangerous conditions. Fortunately, most of those involved were uninjured and there was primarily property damage to report.

A painful incident occurred at 5:45 a.m. in Bad Driburg on Brakeler Straße when an 18-year-old Mercedes driver, who apparently did not have a valid driver's license, rammed a waiting Opel Astra. Fortunately, the 37-year-old driver remained unharmed, while the young driver ran away after the accident, but was later tracked down by the police. The property damage totaled around 1,300 euros.

Another accident occurred at 6:50 a.m. on the L823 near Steinheim. A 52-year-old from Slovakia wanted to turn in his Skoda and collided with a VW Polo driven by a 19-year-old from Steinheim, who suffered minor injuries. The total damage here amounted to around 4,000 euros.

As far as safety on the roads is concerned, the e-scooter driver from Brakel, who fell on the Rohrweg/Zur Lüre connecting road in the morning hours, is another example of the cause of an accident. Here too, it was the slippery road that caused the 47-year-old to fall.

In the evening hours, the police reported another serious accident on the B7/B252 near Warburg. An 18-year-old driver who wanted to turn onto the B252 in her Mini skidded and crashed into an oncoming truck. Both the young woman and the 22-year-old truck driver sustained minor injuries and required medical attention. The material damage was estimated at 40,000 euros and both vehicles had to be towed away.

Warning of the dangers

The police are alerted and are warning of the dangers posed by wet weather and wind. She advises all drivers to adjust their speed and keep enough distance. Road safety is an issue that is not only important in the Höxter district. As part of the 2021-2030 road safety program with the motto “Vision Zero”, the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) is pursuing the goal of not allowing a single death or serious injury in road traffic. To this end, funds are being set up for research and initiatives to improve road safety.

The innovation initiative mFUND and various funding projects for the digitization of transport systems are intended to increase safety for all road users, including cyclists and e-scooter drivers. The Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt) in particular carries out numerous research projects to further increase road safety and offers numerous free information materials. The German Road Safety Council is also active in this area and is committed to improving road safety.

As reports from transport organizations confirm, it is important to pay attention to seasonal changes in weather conditions. Even off-road, you shouldn't forget the importance of safety.
