Armed robbery at a gas station in Uedem: police are looking for witnesses!
On December 29th, a disturbing incident occurred in Uedem when a masked perpetrator attacked a gas station on Molkereistrasse at around 8 p.m. According to lokalkompass.de, the unknown person entered the gas station and threatened an employee there with a pistol. The robbery ended with a sum of cash in the high three-digit range being handed over before the perpetrator fled in an unknown direction. The wanted suspect is described as around 1.80 meters tall and slim, and was wearing dark clothing and a mask with a balaclava. The police immediately started an investigation and are urgently looking for witnesses to the incident. Information can be reported to the Kleve criminal police on 02821 5040.
This incident is part of a worrying development. A similar crime was committed in Mindelheim on November 6th, as reported by polizei.bayern.de. Here, too, a masked perpetrator broke into a gas station, threatened an employee with a weapon and demanded cash. While the perpetrator in this case fled, the employee fortunately remained uninjured but received medical care as a precaution. The wanted perpetrator is described as around 30 years old and between 170 and 175 cm tall, dressed in black and wearing silver glasses. His search has so far yielded no results.
Robbery crimes on the rise
The crimes shed light on the general security situation, which has recently been characterized by an increase in robbery crimes. According to the police crime statistics (PKS), the total number of robbery offenses in 2023 was 44,857 cases, followed by 43,194 cases in 2024, which shows a noticeable increase. The statistics make it clear that robberies on streets, paths or squares make up the largest proportion of crimes, with 19,074 cases in 2023 and 18,672 in 2024, as protectionone.de reports. These figures are alarming and show that robbery crimes are increasingly coming into focus.
Unfortunately, the incidents in Uedem and Mindelheim are not isolated cases, but part of a larger trend that affects many communities. The police warn again: Be vigilant and report suspicious observations. Together we can help make our neighborhoods safer.
