Drug swamp in Cologne: Police seize cash and weapons!

A massive police operation in Cologne-Kalk is currently causing a stir. On Thursday, June 26, 2025, the emergency services from the Kalk focal point team seized a number of drugs and dangerous items. It's high and hot in this city, which is known not only for its beauty but also for its challenges.

During the operation, a total of 79 people were checked in various checks in the Kalk district and the neighboring districts of Höhenberg and Vingst. About 12 people were sent off. The amount of drugs and other illegal items seized is shocking:

  • Bargeld
  • 50 Gramm Cannabis
  • Unversteuerter Shisha-Tabak
  • Zwei neuwertige Smartphones
  • Einhandmesser
  • Teleskopschlagstock

Target drug dealers and shoplifters

A particularly explosive incident occurred at the Fuldaer Straße tram stop, where a 22-year-old suspected drug dealer fled, but was arrested a short time later on Apoldaer Straße. The young man had around 900 euros in cash and 50 grams of cannabis with him. This is what happens when you get involved in drug deals in Kalk.

Furthermore, a real find was made during an inspection in a restaurant on Kalk-Mülheimer Straße: ten plastic bowls with untaxed shisha tobacco and around 150 grams of cannabis and 50 grams of hashish were confiscated. Such discoveries are not uncommon in the region, especially given the persistently high level of drug crime in Germany. According to Statista, around 347,000 cases of drug-related crime were recorded by the police in 2023, with cannabis being the main substance.

Arrests and traffic stops

The police left no stone unturned when they checked a VW Polo on Zechenstrasse/Kalker Hauptstrasse. Here a 27-year-old passenger tried to hide 2,600 euros in cash. The origin of the money is unclear and is now the focus of the investigation. A 56-year-old BMW driver was also unlucky because a one-handed knife was found in his vehicle. Insults towards the police followed, which didn't make the situation any better.

The shoplifter who was chased by a grocer on a bicycle on Taunusstrasse was particularly bold. He even damaged the police patrol car. Ultimately, the 44-year-old, who tried to squeeze between a company vehicle and a parked car, was arrested. His backpack contained the loot from the shoplifting.

These incidents make it clear that Cologne-Kalk and its surroundings are not calming down. The deployment of the police shows that the city is actively defending itself against drugs and crime and is ready to face the challenges of everyday life. So the question remains: How are the streets of Kalk changing under the watchful eye of the police?

The population must also be aware of the fact that drug and drug-related crime not only threatens security but also represents a serious health and social problem. The number of drug deaths rose to around 2,230 in Germany in 2023, which is a worrying sign for everyone. Regardless of the developments, it remains to be hoped that the police measures will fall on fertile ground and sustainably increase security in all Cologne districts.
