Cologne Sharks celebrate clear victory in Dresden – Ancicka on the rise!
Yesterday the Kölner Haie achieved an impressive 5-2 win against the Dresdner Eislöwen. This game was particularly important for goalkeeper Tobias Ancicka, who thrilled the fans with his strong performance. After a mixed phase at the start of the season with three defeats in three games, Ancicka was finally able to turn things around and show that he has the potential to support the Sharks in the current season.
The Haie started the game furiously. Dominik Bokk made it 1-0 in the first minute, followed by two more goals from Veli-Matti Vittasmäki and Valtteri Kemiläinen, which took the Haie ahead 3-0 in the first third. Parker Tuomie increased the lead to 4-0 in the second period before the Dresden Ice Lions scored two goals from Sebastian Gorcik and Austin Ortega. Ancicka had no influence on these goals, but that didn't dampen the mood as Ryan MacInnis made the final score 5-2 with his goal.
A comeback for Ancicka
Tobias Ancicka, born on February 27, 2001 in Heilbronn, has experienced some ups and downs this season. The 1.87 meter tall, 84 kilogram goalkeeper not only brings with him impressive statistics, but also a strong family legacy: his father, Martin Ancicka, was a professional and played over 200 DEL games. After a successful youth career at clubs such as EV Regensburg and Eisbären Juniors Berlin, where he also attracted attention in the national team, he moved to the Kölner Haien in 2023.
In a recently published analysis of Ancicka's performance in the DEL, his statistics are in the foreground: in 115 games he won 58 times and has a goals against average of 2.59. With a catch rate of 91.1%, he is one of the stronger goalkeepers in the league. His development will continue to be followed with interest, especially since he was called up for the German national team last season and is already playing in the Champions Hockey League.
The future of sharks
With this win, the Kölner Haie climb to third place in the table and are taking a step in the right direction. However, coach Kari Jalonen has announced that he will leave the team after this season. This raises questions about what will happen in the future. A bright spot for the team is the next game against the Straubing Tigers, where the Haie can prove themselves again.
Overall, it remains to be seen whether Ancicka can continue to show consistently good performances to keep the Sharks on the road to success. The next game could be Cologne's next step into what will hopefully be a successful season.
