Feel your faith while dancing: The Night of Open Churches in Krefeld!
A very special event will take place in the Old Church of Krefeld on Friday, June 27, 2025: The DanceFlowSpirit as part of the 10th Night of Open Churches. From 7:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the world of dance and experience the connection between body and spirituality. Admission is free and the event is aimed at everyone, regardless of age, origin or religious beliefs, as [lokalkompass.de](https://www.lokalkompass.de/kempen-toenisberg/c-kultur/tanzen-spueren- Glauben_a2062136) reports.
The complex program offers a lot of variety, from free dance at the beginning to an interactive audio sculpture. A highlight will be the NightSpirit–Ecstatic Dance with DJ OSE at 8:00 p.m. At 8:45 p.m., Iris Hoppe's performance “Sense of Balance” will appeal to the participants' senses on an oversized seesaw. With music like Beethoven's canon, the balance of sound and movement is wonderfully staged here. Special attention will also be paid to “Awakening the Dancer” at 9:30 p.m., where new dance impulses will be provided by Andreas Simon. The evening flow concludes at 11 p.m., which creates space for resonance and silence.
Dance as an expression of spirituality
DanceFlowSpirit is more than just a creative event; it is part of a broader initiative by the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland that is testing physical spirituality. According to citykirche-krefeld.de, the relationship between movement and faith is examined here. Participation is open to everyone and the event format enables a deeper examination of one's own faith through movement.
In this context, the Bonn liturgical scholar Albert Gerhards questions the role of dance in the church. Although dance has historically often been rejected in churches, he sees the opportunity to open up new dimensions in worship. Dance could promote communal experiences if practiced in a respectful and careful setting. For example, in the Ethiopian church context, dance is seen as a central part of the liturgy, while in other traditions, as Gerhards notes, the acceptance of dance varies depending on perspective katholisch.de.
Particularly exciting is the upcoming opportunity to experience the interactive audio sculpture “Sense of Balance” on June 28th and 29th, 2025 as part of “Culture Finds City”, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Old Church of Krefeld. Here the interplay between dance and sound is further explored.
Overall, the coming days offer a wonderful opportunity to combine dance and spirituality and create a space for new experiences. So if you are interested in a moving experience, you should make a note of the appointment at the Old Church in Krefeld and enjoy the evening with an openness to new impressions.
