Robbery at Leverkusen car wash: police are looking for witnesses!
In the city of Leverkusen, an attack on a car wash caused a stir. On Saturday, July 5th, a man around 30 years old entered the car wash on Stixchesstrasse and caused a moment of shock. The perpetrator, whose description is available to the police, threatened a 23-year-old employee with a gun and demanded cash. After receiving his loot, he fled in an unknown direction, as rp-online.de reports.
The perpetrator is described as follows: He is around 1.80 meters tall and was wearing a beige-gray baseball cap, a black scarf and a black “JAKO” tracksuit with white applications on the trousers. There were also black sneakers and gray gloves. The police are now looking for witnesses who can provide information about this incident.
Burglary in the past
The car wash had already had to contend with an attempted break-in shortly before. On the night of May 10th to 11th, 2025, unknown perpetrators gained access to the offices and stole cash. The burglars gained access through a roller shutter window and several doors and even opened a safe in the office. Video surveillance documented two men entering and leaving the car wash several times, one in light clothing and the other in dark clothing, as presseportal.de reports.
The Cologne police have started investigating both cases and are hoping for information from the public. Suspicious people or vehicles in the Stixchesstrasse area can be reported to the Criminal Police Office 71 on 0221 229-0 or by email to poststelle.koeln@polizei.nrw.de.
Martial state of crime
The incidents also shed light on general crime in Germany. There were around 5.63 million crimes in 2022, with the number of robbery offenses being over 38,000. Thefts have increased in recent years. There is a worrying trend, particularly in North Rhine-Westphalia, where over 23,500 residential burglaries were registered, as statista.com suggests. The clearance rate for robbery crimes is almost 60%, but the feeling of insecurity is noticeable in many neighborhoods.
The recent attacks in Leverkusen are a warning sign that something needs to be done in the region to ensure the safety of citizens and find a good hand for preventive measures.
