Bayer boss criticizes Bayern: Wirtz transfer fails due to aggressiveness
There is a lot of excitement in the football world, especially when it comes to the transfer of Florian Wirtz. Bayer Leverkusen's managing director Fernando Carro commented in an interview on the recent speculation about a move for the talented offensive player to FC Bayern Munich. Carro considers Bayern's public advertising to be "so publicly aggressive" and believes that it has significantly reduced the record champions' chances of signing Wirtz. He adds that this approach did not serve the player and his family, as Radiolippe reports.
Bayern had worked intensively on Wirtz's commitment over many weeks and were optimistic at times. In the spring there was even personal contact between Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen and Wirtz. Nevertheless, Carro rejected a possible transfer fee and since then there have been no more concrete discussions between the two clubs. Interestingly, Carro explained that Bayern appeared to be confident that they could win over Wirtz, while he had other information.
A move abroad
Instead, Florian Wirtz has now decided to move to Liverpool FC. This decision did not come out of the blue. Wirtz's father, Hans-Joachim Wirtz, emphasizes that the Liverpool coach and his playing philosophy were crucial for his son's choice. According to information from Transfermarkt, Bayer Leverkusen will achieve a transfer fee of around 140 million euros, which would represent a new record for the Bundesliga.
But FC Bayern has also expressed interest in Wirtz and was planning an offer of around 100 million euros. According to reports, the salary Bayern have offered Wirtz could be around €25 million higher than Manchester City's offer, where no player earns more than coach Pep Guardiola. Bayer Leverkusen is currently fighting to keep Wirtz, whose contract runs until 2027. Sports director Simon Rolfes estimates the chances of Wirtz staying at 60:40, while Carro puts the situation at 50:50.
A painful farewell?
Carro emphasized that it hurts to let Wirtz go, even if he wishes him the best. The manager cannot understand the joy of DFL supervisory board chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke that Wirtz did not move to Munich. He argues that such a transfer would have only made Bayern stronger. It was a tough week for Bayer Leverkusen, in which the rumors about Wirtz hung like a shadow over the club and time was running out until the competitions started again.
What the future holds remains to be seen. An exciting phase lies ahead and both Bayern and Leverkusen must prepare for the challenges ahead. The football world will be keeping an eye on these developments!
