The Manitu Canoe: Nostalgia and gags in a new cult sequel!

In Cologne it's all about nostalgia and good entertainment at the moment. The sequel to the cult film “The Shoe of Manitu”, entitled “The Canoe of Manitu”, is in the starting blocks and promises to make audiences laugh again. Michael Bully Herbig, who developed the idea for the Western parody over 25 years ago, is celebrating his comeback with this film. The first part, released in 2001, is considered one of the most successful German films, and anticipation for the sequel couldn't be higher. Radio lip reports that the new story picks up almost 25 years later and brings back well-known characters from the first film.

In “The Canoe of Manitu,” viewers experience the return of Michael Bully Herbig as Abahachi and his twin brother Winnetouch, played by Christian Tramitz. Rick Kavanian as Dimitri and Sky du Mont as the villain are also back. The plot revolves around a magical canoe that can make you immortal - a concept that is sure to provide some weirdly humorous twists. Abahachi and the Ranger face the challenge of protecting the canoe from the devious Oil Prince, who has a chaotic gang in tow. There are a wealth of gags and funny dialogues that are reminiscent of the charm of the first part. And in the style of the old westerns, there are also dance performances and songs, including by Stefan Raab and Herbig himself.

A touch of controversy

But not everything about the new production goes without criticism. The character of Winnetouch is portrayed as a stereotype of an affected gay man, which has met with resistance in the past. Here, however, Bully Herbig and the co-screenwriters decided to keep this portrayal. The Manitu Canoe also gives Native Americans a voice by speaking in their own language - a welcome step in the right direction. Men and women from several tribes were hired for particularly emotionally moving scenes, which is intended to ensure authenticity.

Sky du Mont has announced that they will be retiring with this film, which clearly moves Bully Herbig. He expressed sadness about the farewell of his friend and partner in front of the camera. Whether there will be another sequel remains uncertain at the moment, but fans can definitely be excited.

Fiction meets reality

Stuttgart, where the new film was shot, offers many opportunities to attract viewers. It remains to be seen whether the laughing muscles will be strained as much as with its predecessor, but the signs are good. One can only hope that the magic of the first film is kept alive in this new tale.
