TBV Lemgo Lippe defeats Wetzlar and secures third place for the winter break!

TBV Lemgo Lippe closes 2025 with a solid win against HSG Wetzlar. With a final score of 28:25 (16:14), the team not only defended its place in the DAIKIN Handball Bundesliga, but also caused great joy among the fans. On Friday evening, a crucial matchday, the Lemgo team put in a fighting performance on the floor, despite some challenges with injured players.

The game started strongly: Jan Mudrow, who replaced Tim Suton in the starting line-up, scored the first goal in the 2nd minute. But Wetzlar could not be shaken off and was able to take the lead 8:6 after 14 minutes. Stefan Cavor, who scored a total of six goals in the first half, attracted particular attention. But the Lemgo team improved defensively and Niels Versteijnen gave his team a 10-9 lead in the 19th minute. Bobby Schagen and Versteijnen, who were both the best throwers of the game, made a decisive contribution to the half-time lead, which was ultimately sealed at 16:14, as Lippe Kick reports.

Tension until the last minute

The game remained exciting in the second half. After a time out, coach Kehrmann gave his shooters new instructions, but HSG Wetzlar equalized to 20:20 in the 41st minute. It wasn't until the 56th minute that Lukas Hutecek set the stage for a secure victory with his goal to make it 27:25, which was sealed with another goal 90 seconds before the end to make it 28:25. The best throwers of the game, alongside Hutecek and Versteijnen, were worth mentioning: Bobby Schagen scored four goals and Willecke contributed five goals to the success. This shows once again how broad the team's offensive options are, as Handball Papst highlights.

The joy of the victory and third place in the table is of course marred by the injury to Tim Suton, who suffered a suspected muscle fiber injury in the final training session on Christmas Day and was therefore only able to sit on the bench. Adam Nyfjäll was also unable to play, making the team's performance even more impressive. Preparation for the second half of the season starts on January 15th, so there is still a lot of work ahead of the TBV Lemgo boys.

A look ahead

With 30:8 points, TBV Lemgo Lippe is in a comfortable third place in the table. There is even more reason to be optimistic about the second half of the season. The next important game against HC Erlangen is on February 8, 2024, as [Handball World](https://www.handball-world.news/artikel/handball-im- Fernsehen-handball-im- Fernsehen-handball-bundesliga-hc-erlangen-tbv-lemgo-lippe-in-liveticker-und-livestream-994798) reports. Coach Kehrmann will expect a physically intense game, which is why the coordination and defensive work of the players will be of central importance.

Overall, TBV Lemgo Lippe shows that it wants to start the second half of the season with a strong squad and team spirit. The players are ready to give everything to continue competing in the upper leagues and to inspire their fans.
