New horizons: 58 students start the police technical college in Hagen!

On August 27, 2025, a new phase of life begins for 58 young people at the police technical college in Hagen. These include 19 female students and 39 students between the ages of 14 and 30 who have chosen this exciting educational path. The technical college is now in its fourth round and represents an excellent opportunity for young people with intermediate educational qualifications to enter the police service. The Hagen police also warmly welcome the new FOS participants and wish everyone much success on their journey.

“The police technical college in North Rhine-Westphalia was introduced in August 2022 and is aimed at students with an intermediate school leaving certificate or eligibility for upper secondary school,” explains the North Rhine-Westphalia police. The course includes a two-year course at vocational colleges, which ends with a police diploma. Graduates not only receive a technical college entrance qualification, but also a confirmation to study at the North Rhine-Westphalia University of Police and Public Administration.

The way to the police

The requirements are clear: In order to take part in the police technical college, students must meet the general recruitment requirements for the police profession and take part in the three-day Police NRW recruitment test. Anyone who passes the selection process, which includes a PC test, a medical examination and an assessment center, can look forward to the two-year training course. In 2025, 3,645 people applied across the country, of which 551 were successfully selected. An impressive result!

In the first year of technical college, students expect practical content. You have classes twice a week and spend three days in internship to gain a comprehensive insight into police work. In the second year, lessons primarily take place at vocational colleges, where special subjects such as law, political science and administrative business administration are covered. Exam subjects are law, mathematics, German and English. The internships are carried out in the recruitment and training authority or at cooperation authorities, with police training being closely linked to the authorities in Bochum, Halver and other cities.

An internship with perspective

The North Rhine-Westphalia Police attach great importance to providing interns with accommodation close to their homes. The young people are not only trained in the administrative tasks of the police, but can also gain experience in security services, public order offices or drug counseling centers. The students have to prepare a total of four practical report books, which are evaluated by teachers at the vocational college. This ensures that theory and practice mesh well and that prospective police officers are well prepared for their future careers.

We wish all new participants at the Police Technical College in Hagen a successful start to the new school year and an exciting and educational time at their training facility! The Ennepe-Ruhr district police are also keeping their fingers crossed for the eight assigned FOS participants for successful training and a strong entry into the police service.
