Mettmann rides to the final: record for city cycling in 2025!
On Saturday, June 21, 2025, city cycling in Mettmann will enter its final round. Over 960 enthusiastic cyclists, including women, men, young people and children, took part in this environmentally friendly initiative. 50 teams were formed to cover as many kilometers as possible within 21 days and thus not only promote their fitness, but also make a contribution to climate protection. But what exactly is city cycling? It is a campaign by the Climate Alliance, a network of over 1,700 cities, municipalities and districts in 26 European countries, which was launched in 2008. Every year, local politicians and citizens cycle in teams to determine the most cycling-active communities and teams based on the kilometers covered. The benefits of cycling
This competition is about much more than just counting kilometers. It also highlights the benefits of cycling, ranging from a breath of fresh air to exercise, flexibility and avoiding traffic jams. The campaign runs from June 1st to 21st, 2025 simultaneously in all ten cities in the Mettmann district. This creates a large-scale competition that mobilizes the entire region. Participants can easily record their cycling kilometers via an online cycling calendar on the platform www.stadtradeln.de, where the results are published transparently among the teams and municipalities. School classes, clubs or companies can also form their own teams and take part.
Prizes and awards
An additional incentive system creates excitement: participants who drive more than 30 kilometers take part in a raffle, while a special raffle is planned for school classes. The highlights of the campaign will finally be recognized at the local festival on August 31, 2025, when the prizes and certificates will be presented.
