Emergency service in Ratingen: 70 missions in the morning - chaos on the highway!
Today, July 1, 2025, the city of Ratingen in North Rhine-Westphalia is struggling with an exceptionally high volume of fire and rescue services. Around 70 missions were recorded from the early hours of the morning, including nine emergency medical missions, which presented the forces with major challenges. This reports Newsflash24.
The variety of application scenarios is impressive. Among other things, there was a truck fire on Autobahn 44 and a burning car on “Am kleine Rahm” street. In the latter case, the fire brigade was able to successfully prevent the flames from spreading to a residential building, which was very fortunate. At the same time, a coach with over 65 children and 15 carers came under pressure due to a defective air conditioning system. Although the children were taken to a safe area and given drinks, one child was taken to hospital for a medical examination. The journey continued for the remaining passengers in an air-conditioned replacement vehicle.
Cooperation between the emergency services
What is particularly worth mentioning is the close cooperation between the various emergency services. The management service of the Ratingen fire department was also alerted to provide support in a serious traffic accident in Langenfeld. The fire brigade and rescue service from Ratingen and Heiligenhaus, rescue services from neighboring cities and emergency doctors from the Mettmann district are on duty. The Mettmann district police and the motorway police are also actively on site to keep the situation under control.
Behind these operations is a worrying underlying trend in North Rhine-Westphalia: the number of traffic accidents has been enormous for years. In 2023 alone, there were a total of 637,365 registered traffic accidents, of which 63,250 were accidents with personal injuries. This corresponds to a share of almost 10 percent. Destatis provides frightening statistics and information. The main causes of accidents are often risky overtaking maneuvers, excessive speeds, distractions at the wheel and technical defects.
Safety situation in road traffic
The traffic safety situation in North Rhine-Westphalia has a direct impact on legislation, traffic education and infrastructure. One aim of these statistics is to shed light on structures and dependencies in accidents. The aim is to improve road safety by preparing data about accidents, people involved and types of vehicles.
The current events in Ratingen and the nationwide statistics make it clear that the safety situation in road traffic remains an urgent issue. It is therefore crucial that those responsible derive consistent measures from the available data sets in order to minimize the risk for all road users.
It remains to be hoped that such operations will become less frequent in the future and that road safety in North Rhine-Westphalia can be further increased so that people can travel on the roads without fear.
