Safe to school: 5,000 click bracelets for preschool children in Mettmann!
Traffic education campaigns on the way to school are gaining momentum in North Rhine-Westphalia and beyond. Today, July 12, 2025, the Mettmann district traffic police started the seventh round of its successfully implemented “Safe to School” campaign. This initiative aims to provide preschool children with safe preparation for school, which is more important than ever today. The partners in this campaign are the company Lhoist and the accident fund NRW, under the patronage of Thomas Hendele.
As part of the campaign, a total of 5,000 traffic education media will be distributed to kindergartens in the Mettmann district. The focus is particularly on the reflective click bracelets, which are intended to give little children starting school more visibility in traffic. These are an important tool to ensure the safety of children when they are on the roads soon.
Media to support traffic education
The campaign also includes the distribution of school route booklets and parent guides, which provide valuable information on traffic education. These brochures not only explain the correct behavior in traffic, but also provide information about the importance of traffic signs and safety when crossing streets. Tips are also given for adults on how to choose the safest route to school and what clothing is most suitable in the dark.
Sascha Becker, chairman of the Mettmann district traffic watchdog, emphasizes the urgency of these preparations: “Early preparation for the way to school is of great importance so that our children get to school safely and ultimately develop the skills necessary to act independently in traffic.” This focus on early education is also supported by other regions, such as the Vienna Education Directorate.
Traffic education in Vienna and beyond
In Vienna there are also committed road safety measures that were established by the Education Directorate in collaboration with the State Police Directorate and the State Transport Department. This includes a standard traffic education program that extends from the 1st grade to the 4th grade. The children practice crossing streets safely and are prepared for various traffic situations.
In addition, the mobility agency in Vienna offers free scooter courses and cycling courses for middle schools to further raise awareness of road safety. The ÖAMTC cooperation with AUVA also contributes to improving road safety by providing programs and materials for schools.
These diverse approaches show that traffic education is not only important, but also diverse. It offers opportunities for parents, teachers and children to actively engage with the topic and thus increase road safety. In Mettmann as in Vienna it is clear: the safety of our children has top priority.
