Home European Championship 2025: Germany wants to shine against France with fan power!

The anticipation for the 2025 European Hockey Championships is in full swing! On August 8th, the best teams in Europe will compete against each other at the Warsteiner HockeyPark in Mönchengladbach. The German men's national team has its first difficult opponent: in the opening game they face France. But that's just the beginning - on August 10th England and a little later Poland are waiting for the German team. Sport1 reports that Magenta Sport will broadcast up to 16 European Championship games live and free of charge, making the hearts of hockey fans beat faster.

National coach André Henning is optimistic and emphasizes the support from fans, media and partners. “There is a lot of potential in the team and the support from outside gives us the motivation we need,” says Henning. He sees the European top as fairly evenly matched, with the Netherlands being the slight favorites. He is convinced that every knockout game could be like a final.

A high-profile event

This European Championship is the 20th edition of the tournament and Mönchengladbach is hosting for the third time. Wikipedia explains that the winner will qualify for the 2026 Hockey World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands. Fans can also look forward to around 30 hours of live hockey, which will be broadcast free of charge on MagentaTV and MagentaSport. Incidentally, this responsibility is assumed by a top-class team for on-site reporting.

The German gentlemen have big plans. National player Hannes Müller expresses clear title ambitions: “We are young, hungry and want to use our home advantage here!” The team not only wants to get to the semi-finals, but also straight to the final – and ultimately bring home the stunning winner’s trophy. There are also exciting inclusion games on the program, moderated by Johannes B. Kerner, which makes the event even more colorful.

A look at the groups

The group division is just as interesting: The strong teams from the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium and Austria duel in Group A. The draw for the groups took place on September 12, 2024, and the excitement is increasing every day. The best six teams qualified directly for the Eurovision Hockey Championship 2023, which doesn't make the situation any easier.

The final two teams will secure their place through the EuroHockey Qualifiers, which will take place in Vienna and Dublin in August 2024. The rules for classification are clear: points, games won, goal difference and more – exciting games are guaranteed!

The time until the European Championship passes slowly, but the wait is definitely worth it. It remains to be seen whether the German team can make good its claim to the title. But one thing is clear: the support of the fans will certainly be a central factor in the team's success until the end. Press portal highlights that Over 30 live broadcasts and the commitment of Telekom, which supports the “Specials” team, will make this event something special.
