Thiel in mortal danger: The dark Münster crime scene tonight!
On December 29, 2025, the exciting Münster crime scene “The Devil's Long Breath” will be repeated on rbb at 8:15 p.m. The story revolves around Chief Inspector Frank Thiel, played by Axel Prahl, who wakes up in a hotel room with no memory and a burn. A strange and dangerous chain of coincidences soon leads him into a murder investigation in which he himself becomes a suspect.
A real shock for Thiel: the body of Arne Hartnack, his former boss whom he arrested twenty years ago, is discovered nearby. Hartnack was shot with Thiel's service weapon, which immediately lands Thiel in custody. Meanwhile, Thiel is not only fighting against the allegations, but also with the difficult situation of his father, Herbert, who is suffering from an inoperable brain tumor and is in the hospital.
The plot and the drug Burundanga
Solving the murder case turns out to be complicated. Professor Boerne (Jan Josef Liefers) supports Thiel as a mocking but interested supporter. What makes the story exciting is the presence of the drug Burundanga, whose properties as a “truth drug” were used by the CIA in the 1950s. Today it is often misused in Latin America as a knockout drop.
Burundanga, which can significantly affect the willpower of its consumers, is at the center of the action. Thiel's young colleague, Mirko Schrader (Björn Meyer), takes over the investigation while Dr. Vivian Peters (Anke Fesel) is directed. In an exciting plot twist, it turns out that Hartnack, long imprisoned and innocent, was manipulated by his daughter. Dr. Kühn (Lena Klenke) made Thiel weak with Burundanga, so that she wanted to incite him to attempt to murder his own father - but this fails and Thiel shoots a wild boar instead.
A dark finale
The end of the episode is very dark: Hartnack is executed by his daughter, who previously hid the weapon in the plush koala. And the plans of Dr. Bold meets a tragic end when she takes her own life after eliminating all possible witnesses. Despite these dramatic events, the relationship between Thiel and Boerne remains strong and unbroken.
What remains is the question of how the viewer will deal with these moral dilemmas and the characters' unscrupulousness. Although the Münster crime scene repeatedly opens dark abysses, it is at the same time profound and captivating, and the complex relationships of the characters keep the audience on the edge of their seats.
The crime scene “The Devil’s Long Breath” is available via the ARD media library, so it definitely shouldn’t be missed. However, in the next episode entitled “Propheteus”, which has already been filmed, the dynamic between Thiel and Boerne remains unchanged.
