Train cancellations between Essen and Münster: commuters in great distress!
On Sunday, November 2nd, 2025, passengers on the railway line between Essen and Münster will face a real problem. Due to short-term sickness reports among Deutsche Bahn's dispatch staff, there are significant restrictions. The regional express line RE 42, which connects numerous commuters in the Mönchengladbach, Krefeld, Duisburg, Essen and Münster area, is particularly affected. The disruption affects the period between 11:46 a.m. and 2:14 p.m., with trains between these cities unable to run as scheduled. Essen main station, for example, recorded cancellations on Sunday with the departure to Münster at 11:46 a.m. and the return journey from Münster to Essen at 1:13 p.m. This leaves travelers with no choice but to switch to alternative connections.
But what are the alternatives? Deutsche Bahn recommends that passengers switch to the regional train line RB 33 between Mönchengladbach and Duisburg or the RE 2 as a replacement connection on the Duisburg – Münster section. Commuters who use the RE 42 are particularly affected here, as many of them travel regularly and are dependent on punctual service. Passengers are advised to check current connections before departure to avoid unpleasant surprises. Information is available in the timetable information and the DB Navigator app. According to the railway, the acute shortage of staff is one of the main reasons for the disruption in train operations.
Shortage of staff at Deutsche Bahn
The lack of staff is a far-reaching problem at Deutsche Bahn that not only affects regional transport. Deutsche Bahn's long-distance trains also suffer from unpunctuality, which is due to a lack of staff for signal boxes. These signal boxes are crucial for planning train journeys, setting switches and monitoring level crossings. An anonymous dispatcher reports frequent failures, especially in Thuringia and Baden-Württemberg. Over 100 signal boxes were unmanned from August to December, further exacerbating the situation.
There are already initiatives to reduce these bottlenecks: Deutsche Bahn has started training programs and has filled 250 positions so far. Nevertheless, the challenges are enormous. Existing employees are often overworked, work up to 55 hours a week and hardly have any weekends off. This leads to an increase in cases of illness, which further compounds the problem. The forecast is that enough dispatchers will be hired by the end of 2025 to improve the situation.
Tips for oral hygiene with water flosser
Properly cleaning a water flosser is just as important: tabletop models should be cleaned with soap and water and a water-vinegar mixture; handheld models require a thorough tank cleaning. This ensures the optimal use of these practical devices.
Whether on the train or in the bathroom, one thing remains clear: opponents of staff shortages and advocates of oral hygiene don't have it easy. But with the right information and tips you can overcome the challenges.
