New life at the commercial vocational college: kiosk and soundproofing for students!

The trend towards co-creation is also noticeable at the Oberberg Commercial Vocational College (KBKO) in Gummersbach. This institution has undergone numerous changes in the last two years, which have been driven forward in particular by the committed school management and the support of local institutions. The Sparkasse Gummersbach, together with the Sparkasse and Community Foundation, provided financial support for the further development of the school, which according to oberberg-aktuell.de includes an amount of 5,000 euros.

A central concern of the KBKO was the reopening of the orphaned kiosk. This was achieved in September 2022 and the small restaurant under the name “Essbar” has now found a new tenant, Giusy Vecchione. Headmaster Rainer Gottschlich reports on the lively atmosphere that is created there - a place where students and teachers come together. The lounge in front of the “Essbar” was redesigned and now offers more seating options for the students.

A school in transition

But not everything is just bliss: one existing problem is the extreme reverberation in the lounge, which significantly disrupts learning and entertaining. To counteract this problem, the school is planning to install soundproofing elements under the ceiling, which will cost around 13,000 euros. This also shows the support of the Sparkasse, which is proving to be a valuable partner in school development.

Gottschlich impressively explains the importance attached to school development: “It is essential to involve the students in the school development process.” This iterative process, like that German school portal emphasizes, requires time and commitment from everyone involved - teachers, students, parents and also administrative staff. “Good school development is a systematic and self-reflective process,” the headmaster concluded.

Values and competencies in focus

The KBKO prides itself on being a place not only of learning, but also of values. The school places great value on respect, tolerance, openness and responsibility in order to best prepare students for their social tasks as workers and citizens. The school's work is supported by a professional advisory system that helps students strengthen their skills in the commercial area, as stated on the school's homepage bko-kfm.de can be read.

The close maintenance of contacts with other countries and the exchange with different cultural groups show that the KBKO dares to look beyond the horizon. The future will show how these successful approaches will develop in the coming years. One thing is certain: the path of the KBKO in Gummersbach is promising - there is still a lot to be done!
