Oberhausen embarrassed themselves again: 0-0 against Velbert in the basement duel!

On Sunday afternoon, Rot-Weiß Oberhausen welcomed the newly founded SSVg Velbert in the Regionalliga West. After 90 minutes of competition, the game ended in a disappointing 0-0 draw, despite a dominant performance from the home team. Oberhausen set the course right from the start, but couldn't get past zero, which frustrated the fans.

Oberhausen started the match promisingly. Stoppelkamp gave Velbert his first warning in the third minute. As a result, the hosts repeatedly came dangerously in front of the goal. In the 12th minute, a shot from Gueye graced the goal and went just over the crossbar. Velbert was lucky in the first half when Murray's shot hit the crossbar in stoppage time. The teams went into the break with the goalless draw.

Weak offensive confirms concerns

The hosts stayed in control in the second half. A quadruple chance from Velbert was brilliantly blocked. Stoppelkamp and Fassnacht were particularly active, but lacked the necessary luck in front of goal. In the 65th minute, Fassnacht failed again, this time on the crossbar. The Velbert goalkeeper Marcel Lenz shone that day by, among other things, spectacularly parrying a header from Oberhausen in the 76th minute. In the final minute, Stoppelkamp put the last big chance over the goal, which only added to the frustrating feeling of the game. Oberhausen finished the match without scoring a single goal.

After four match days, Oberhausen are in 15th place in the table with just one win and another draw. The attack is sluggish; in the league's most unsuccessful attack so far, only four goals were scored in this young season. Velbert, on the other hand, is in 16th place after the draw and has not yet won a victory and cannot escape the danger zone with only five goals scored. Coach Farat Toku's team urgently needs to score points after a bitter 1:5 defeat against Fortuna Cologne last week.

Looking ahead

The next challenges are not long in coming: Oberhausen will face SV Rödinghausen next Saturday, while Velbert will have to face FC Gütersloh on Friday. Both teams know that they urgently need to get back on track to avoid turning the season into a disaster early on.

How the two teams will cope with their current situation remains to be seen. Oberhausen definitely have the quality to make the most of this performance, but their lack of penetration in front of goal stands in the way of success. The next encounter will be crucial in order to set an example and get out of the bottom of the table. The perspective remains exciting.

The two teams and their supporters hope for a turnaround in the coming week and are ready for the next challenges. In a league where every point counts, the pressure is great.
