RWO sweeps Alstaden away 12-0 – The test game to prepare for the season!
What a start to the new season! Rot-Weiß Oberhausen impressively demonstrated in the friendly against Schwarz-Weiß Alstaden on June 25, 2025 that they are ready to have a say in the new season. With a majestic 12-0 victory in front of around 600 spectators in the Kuhle, the red and whites not only showed their skills, but also made the eyes of the fans light up. Coach Sebastian Gunkel was more than satisfied with the number of spectators and his team's performance.
The goal festival began in the 14th minute when Moritz Stoppelkamp scored the first goal after an assist from Phil Sieben. The RWO defense didn't hold back for long: in the first half they managed to score five goals in the first 45 minutes. Alexander Mühling increased the score to 2-0 (20th minute) and Christopher Schepp put the early package together with a goal in the 41st minute. Stoppelkamp was unstoppable after the break and scored his second goal before half-time (45th minute). Phil Sieben made it 5-0 (45+2 minutes) shortly before the break.
The second round was all about direct hits
The second section began and RWO wasn't fed up yet. In just less than half an hour, the scoreboards filled up to an incredible 12-0. Luca Schlax, Elias Demirarslan, Ayman Aourir and Glody Ngyombo were the pacesetters who completed the goalscoring list. Due to the clear result, Gunkel changed the goalkeeper and used Jannis Knoblauch to reduce the load on the regular goalkeeper Ryan Valentine.
But not everything was perfect. Alstaden's Serdy Nguala had a great opportunity, but it was brilliantly blocked by RWO goalkeeper Valentine. For Gunkel, the test match was a great opportunity to use almost all of the players. The only one who is in advanced training is Illia Poliakov. Michel Niemeyer was in the squad but did not play and his future at the club remains uncertain.
What's next?
The most exciting weeks of preparation for the RWO begin now. On June 28th they welcome the third division team SC Verl for another friendly match that could certainly be just as promising. Gunkel emphasized the importance of these test games at the start of training on June 16th: They are crucial for preparation for the upcoming 2025/2026 season. It's not just about fitness and team spirit, nutrition, regeneration and fun are also on the agenda. Modern tools such as video analysis should also help so that the RWO team can get off to a strong tactical start.
Overall, the team under Gunkel started preparing for the season with a clear plan. The first training session was on June 16th, followed by a test match on June 21st at Sportfreunde Königshardt, and now the spectacular game against Alstaden. The anticipation for the new season can be felt among players and fans alike!
