Traffic chaos in Siegen: traffic jams, construction sites and constant train cancellations!
It is July 4th, 2025, and the Siegen-Wittgenstein region is facing some challenges when it comes to traffic. In addition to the usual construction sites and traffic disruptions, the train connections from Siegen to Cologne in particular continue to report delays and cancellations. Loud Siegerland newspaper The Rothaarbahn and some federal roads such as the B508 also struggle with regular problems.
Particularly noteworthy is the mega construction site at Schleifmühlchen in Siegen. The construction of a new roundabout, which will be implemented in several construction phases, is intended to improve traffic flow in the long term. The first construction phase began in May 2023 and will continue into the coming years. This project will lead to additional traffic jams, especially in Kredenbach.
Impact on train traffic
The RE9 regional express, which connects Siegen with Cologne, is often affected by delays. This will be reinforced by restrictions announced between July 11 and 14, 2025, according to vrs.de will result in a number of cancellations on various train lines. Those affected include:

- RE 8 und RE 9: Umleitungen in Fahrtrichtung Mönchengladbach bzw. Aachen
- RB 27: Teilausfälle zwischen Troisdorf und Pulheim
- RB 38: Teilausfälle zwischen Köln Messe/Deutz und Horrem
A replacement rail bus service will be set up for the affected passengers. Alternatively, the trains on lines S 12 and S 19 can be used to bypass the route.
