Dragons Rhöndorf loses to Paderborn despite an impressive performance!

On September 20, 2025, the Dragons Rhöndorf played against the Gartenzaun24 Paderborn Baskets in an exciting test match. Despite a respectable performance, the Dragons ultimately lost 63:74. The game was characterized by a mixed week of training: illnesses and injury-related absences of Dusan Ilic and Vuk Scepanovic made preparation difficult. The 16-year-old Tom Viehöfer therefore received valuable playing time and was able to gain experience.

The game started anything but negatively for the Dragons. They initially held on in the first quarter, thanks in part to a dunk from Juhwan Harris-Dyson, which was superbly assisted by Daniel Mayr in the seventh minute. Rémi Völkers came off the bench and contributed to the positive mood with a steal and two assists. However, Paderborn pulled away more and more clearly in the second quarter and found the Dragons trailing by 45:33 at halftime.

Outstanding players and opportunities

The second half started and Matej Šilić, who was on the field for the Dragons, turned up the heat and scored 14 points. Nevertheless, Paderborn rose and the gap grew to over 20 points. Jorge Mejias, who became the Dragons' top scorer with 20 points, initiated a comeback, but it was ultimately unsuccessful. The Dragons were no longer able to make up the deficit in the final phase and Paderborn clearly showed superiority in their actions.

After the game, head coach Max Becker was positive about his team's defensive performance and praised the overall appealing performance, despite the defeat. The individualistic performances were also applauded: Harris-Dyson contributed 14 points and an impressive 10 rebounds. The other top scorers were Mayr with 3 points and 8 rebounds and Reinhart with 8 points.

Outlook for the season

The Dragons' excellent preparation shows that things could go even better in the new season. According to the current information from the Dragons, there is a clear timetable for the ProB team's preparation for the season. A total of six test games are scheduled, with the opening game against Rasta Vechta II on August 23, 2024. The Dragons will also test international opponents such as t71 Diddeleng from Luxembourg.
