There is a very special event on the program in Recklinghausen: From October 24th to November 9th, 2025, “Recklinghausen shines” is celebrating its 20th anniversary. The event attracts large numbers of visitors in the city center and the atmosphere is characterized by this year's motto “Earth and Air”. Particularly impressive is the four-meter-large, illuminated globe that floats majestically under the vault of the St. Peter's provost church. This fascinating installation was created in collaboration with Arena GmbH and is supported by a dedicated four-person team and the scouts in Recklinghausen, as bistum-muenster.de reports.
The church of St. Peter is not only a center of attraction because of the floating globe: visitors can also discover four meditative texts by Provost Karl Kemper there, which invite inner contemplation. Large-format text banners with the first creation report from Genesis and other thoughtful impulses on business and postcards give the event an additional spiritual character. And don't forget the church's generous opening times, which are open to visitors from Sunday to Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays until 10:30 p.m.

But so much light and color are not the only highlights that Recklinghausen has to offer in the coming weeks. “ExtraSchicht”, the night of industrial culture, will take place in advance on June 28, 2025. Over 200,000 guests are expected in the city. This evening from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., around 50 venues in the region will open their doors to a colorful program of classical music, theater, comedy and special tours. Renowned places such as the Zeitreise Strom museum and the Recklinghausen training mine are included.
